EACA launches Care Awards® 2008: MEPs to judge Social Marketing Campaigns

Brussels 04 April 2008: The European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA) has announced a new award for European Social Marketing Campaigns to recognise excellence in promoting care for people, resources and the environment. The EACA Care Awards 2008 will be judged by a panel of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and will be presented at the European Parliament on 25th June 2008.

Ruth Hieronymi, (EPP) will chair the EACA Care Awards 2008.   The jury will comprise:  
□ 5 additional MEPs including: Piia-Noora Kauppi (EPP), Edith Herczog (PSE), Holger Krahmer (ALDE)
□ Media Representatives: Christophe Leclercq, publisher & founder, EurActiv, Frédéric Bouchar, Director, Media Marketing Belgium and Pip Brooking, Editor, Media & Marketing Europe.
□ Agency Representatives: Gary Leih, President of EACA and CEO Ogilvy Group UK, Paul Kirkley, Business Development Director, JWT and Richard Morris, Regional Director, DDB Europe.  

This new award is intended to recognise excellence in social marketing as part of EACA’s overall commitment to promote Corporate Social Responsibility.   Says EACA President, Gary Leih, (CEO of Ogilvy Group UK): “The main aim of this annual ceremony is to highlight the advertising industry’s specific contribution to society by selecting and celebrating the most powerful and relevant social marketing campaigns. The EACA Care Awards will cover subjects such as public health, environment, sustainable consumption, public safety, disability, human rights, domestic violence, child abuse, homelessness, education and other similar topical public issues.   The judging, as well as the announcement of the winners and the presentation of the prizes, will take place at the European Parliament in Brussels, in order to give the winning campaigns the institutional visibility they deserve.   The award will be judged on the 28th of May 2008 and the award ceremony will take place on the 25th of June 2008 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.   The event is linked to the ACT Responsible online gallery and the ACT Responsible World Tour.
